Fantastic food and family fun will be on the menu at Shambles Market over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

To celebrate its reopening following a £1.6 million refurbishment project, Shambles Market will host a free four-day celebration event for all the family from Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April, 9am to 5pm.

Visitors to Shambles Market will enjoy an ‘eggstra’ special time with activities, including face painting, pottery decorating and an Easter bunny trail.

As well as its regular mix of stalls offering superb regional produce, arts, crafts and clothing, a selection of exceptional local crafts people and entertainers will also join the market for the ‘Spring into Shambles Market’ event.

Students at Blueberry Academy on Silver Street, which provides specialist support for adults with learning difficulties, have designed and made toy rabbits for a bunny hunt trail.

Councillor Sonja Crisp, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said:
“Shambles Market offers shoppers a wonderful mix of stalls with an excellent choice of fresh produce for the Easter table, including fresh meat and fish, flowers and plants, as well as cheese and artisan breads.”

“From Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April, 9am to 5pm, our regular market traders will unite with a pick of our finest local businesses for a fantastic celebration of the new-look market. Shoppers can try their hand at making something special to take home and enjoy a long weekend of family fun.”

York’s daily market will reopen on 23 March 2015, with 86 stalls and seven kiosks operating out of the new-look market square. Extra gazebos will be installed for the Easter weekend event.

Shambles Market is supported by £1.6million from City of York Council’s Economic Infrastructure Fund (EIF) that was created to enable projects of strategic importance to the city’s ambitions for creating jobs and growing the economy.
