Budding entrepreneurs in South Derbyshire can learn more about how to follow in the footsteps of Tesco and Marks and Spencers by setting up their own market stall.

Advice, support and guidance are available at the free Become a Market Trader workshop being held at People Express, next to Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, in West Street, Swadlincote.

The South Derbyshire Business Advice Service will talk through the basics of starting up on your own and what support there is nationally for market traders. South Derbyshire District Council’s Licensing and Environmental Health Officers will provide information about food hygiene and other business regulations that you also need to consider as a market trader.

There will also be an opportunity to speak to an experienced market trader, who will point out the opportunities available and considerations to look out for.

Martyn Ford, Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, said:

“Markets can be a quick, low risk way to start your own business and offer a great foundation to showcase a wide range of products.

“Getting started is easy. If you would like to know more about becoming your own boss and testing your product and service ideas, this event is not to be missed.”

The Become a Market Trader workshop takes place from 6pm on Wednesday, September 5.
