A family-run firm, which has been in Durham Market Hall for more than 30 years, has been named Market Trader of the Year at the Durham City Retail Awards 2014.

Durham City Hardware, sister business to Durham City Watches, both of which share units 30 and 31 in Durham Market Hall picked up the award for their excellent customer service, following nominations by a number of customers and a visit from a mystery shopper.
Durham City Hardware is run by Mark Wilson, who took the business over from his parents in 2011.  His parents, Dave and Pam Wilson, had launched and run the business in Durham Market Hall for 30 years.  Durham City Hardware provides a wide range of household supplies, including kitchenware, cleaning products, tools, paints and security supplies.
Following the win, Mark thanked his customers and his colleagues, Christopher Maddison and Eve Maddison.

He said:
“It’s wonderful that all the hard work and early mornings put in by Eve, Christopher and me is recognised and rewarded.  We always try to go the extra mile for our customers, and being named Market Trader of the Year means that that effort is appreciated by the customers, and recognised by the judges.  We’re all thrilled with the award, and even more keen to continue providing the best customer service we possibly can for our established and new customers.”

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, added:
“This award truly recognises the welcome that shoppers always receive at Durham City Hardware, and the great service everyone is guaranteed.  Mark and his team have stood out because of their hard work, their willingness to go the extra mile and the friendliness towards anyone who visits.  Everyone in the Market Hall is thrilled that Durham City Hardware has been named as this year’s winner.”
