logocCanterbury, a city with around 40,000 residents and 6.4 million visitors a year, holds its market every Wednesday and Friday, while Herne Bay’s market takes place each Saturday in a town of 32,000 people. Both markets are well-established and benefit from a very loyal customer base and a wide variety of stallholders.Canterbury City Council runs both markets and provides on-site management, meeting with traders regularly and giving them the confidence to grow their business. Some have been working their pitches for more than 30 years.

Spaces are now available in Canterbury and Herne Bay, and the council is looking for a good mix of new traders to complement the current offer.

Canterbury’s market in St George’s Street is located in the heart of the city. As well as fresh fruit and vegetables, local meats and bakery products, shoppers find books, watches, linen and textiles, makeup, plants and shrubs, baby clothes and much more.

Local residents mix with visitors and foreign tourists, providing a constant supply of customers throughout the day.

In Herne Bay, the market moved to the town’s main shopping area, Mortimer Street, in 2014, giving it a new lease of life. It has since gone from strength to strength and now has a buzz about it every Saturday.

Visitors can take advantage of a variety of fresh and local produce, as well as gifts from independent traders and plenty of bargains.
