BURTON MARKET HALL

Burton Market Hall first opened its doors in 1883 and is an intrinsic part of community life in Burton upon Trent. In 2014 it underwent a £1.5 million refurbishment and remains an integral part of Burton up on Trent’s culture today.

The Market Hall has gone from strength to strength with an increase in footfall, new retailers and unique events taking place over the last 18 months. They are now looking for more outstanding retailers to join them!

The Market Hall offers a huge range of permanent and pop up stalls to suit businesses of all shapes and sizes, with a number of fixed units available ranging in size from 108 sq ft to 340 sq ft. In addition, the central market area hosts ‘pop-up’ stalls on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday to add variety to the current retailers already in place. These stalls can be hired on a casual/non-lease arrangement. Recent new additions to the Market Hallinclude, John Richardson opening the Abbotts Delicatessen, Denise Davies of Waterloo Wools, along with the expansion of the hugely successful Summerhouse Bakery which now features an extensive sit down menu.

Following huge success of their first shop, Jason and Debbie Edgington of Obsessed by Home Decor have expanded the market offering further by opening another store, Plus Fashions. “We’ve been trading in the Hall for almost six months now,” commented Jason, and business is really good. There is a strong community feel in the Hall amongst traders and we all look out for each other. I saw a gap in the Market for underwear and nightwear not long after first opening our gift store, so we trialled it on a pop up stall in the market for a few weeks initially, then took the plunge to open a second shop in the Hall and we’ve never looked back!”

Another trader expanding their business includes, Michelle Shipley of Charisma gifts and cards and more recently Pets with Charisma. ‘We started our business in the Market Hall by offering excellent quality gifts and cards, along with a range of candles. Now we’ve expanded to Pets with Charisma, offering customers a wide range of pet foods and accessories and if customers can’t find what they are looking for on our stalls, we’ll make sure we can source it with five days’!

Tracey Heap of Summerhouse Bakery is also looking forward to the future since her recent expansion into a third shop unit. Summerhouse Bakery is popular amongst locals and has recently been awarded Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. Customers flock to the Hall for Tracey’s cakes, milkshakes and hot food.
